Wednesday 20/05/15

A sporadically busy day. Did 2 jobs for Hazel in the time it took Bruce to get a coffee (ie less than 45 minutes). Started to rain at lunchtime so, rather than the planned S&H 'Shroom burger, went and got pasta from next door.

Did a load of lawn photos in the afternoon after Bruce volunteered to finish some binding that I was 1/2 way through.

Left about 16.45 to head to the beer festival. Got there about the same time as Monday = slowing up. Met Lou inside and set about completing more of the bookmarked list.

Top tipple of the day was
East London (est. 2011)
Orchid 3.6%
A mahogany-coloured, slightly sweet a dark mild, lightly spiced with vanilla

My notes: Lovely chocolate aroma and dark mocha taste. Nearly as good as 4T's. (Lou like this so much she switched to it).

Worst tipple of the day was
Elgood's
(est. 1795)
Coolship 6.7%
Spontaneously fermented using wild yeasts in the brewery's traditional open cooling trays (the coolships) followed by ageing in oak barrels. Oak and fruit on the initial aroma precede a flavour of sharp apples and berries. Tannin from the oak underscores the finish as more fruit characters are revealed.

My notes: YUCK! Rank!!!

This was probably the 2nd worst beer I've had (after "Stewkey Gose" by Poppyland) and I was thankful that the barman gave me a taste rather than the 1/3 I ordered.

While we there a chinese lad turned up with the biggest fat-bastard burger ever. This was monster called 'Belly Buster' from Diasy's. For £10 you got 2 burgers (that looked like a steak), 2 rashers of bacon, 2 eggs, 2 slices of cheese & fried onions in a tomato bread roll. To our astonishment he actually finished it!

Had a pizza but it wasn't really great (though did get a lot of cheese on it). It was getting pretty cold so we pushed off around 20.30 and ended in the Isaac. Cme in towards the end of the Arsenal - Sunderland game. Sunderland really rode their luck but managed to hold out for a draw and a vital point that ensured their Premier League survival.

With Sunderland survibing the last place is between Hull & Newcastle. The money really must be on Hull (playing ManU away) as Newcastle (playing West Ham at home) only have to equal or better Hull's result (though they are capable of cocking this simple requirement up totally).
