Friday 29/05/15

Lou's last day at 4CMR :¬(

Caught bus to Silver Street (driven by Will) and met Lou at her office for the last time. Picked up her bags and went to the club. Chatted with Mavis, Mark B & his partner Michelle. had a few jars before heading to the Isaac via home to drop the stuff off.

SIC III

Sharon has released the poster for Steampunk In Cambridge 3

Thursday 28/05/15

Finished the map with 2 versions (with & without disabled stuff) and sent it to Phil (and asked which he preferred). I think it's better than the old map as it has more information but I am a bit biased.

He came back with 1 change but forgot to say which he liked (my preference is to have facilities on).

Also chased the bloke who wanted the German booklets as still haven't seen the PO

Did a few jobs for assorted people then a sunny walk into town to Lou;s office. We picked up the last 2 boxes + the printer/fax/scanner and got a taxi home with the stuff. Lou's office looks incredibly bare, partly due to the plants moving.

Needed cat food so went to Aldi and got assorted bits while we were there. Carried stuff home and thence to the Isaac. Good to see Antionette back from her South American jaunt. She had a brilliant time on the Amazon and, while it was a hike, she said Machu Pitchu was astounding.

Had a chat with Kevin - he's got tickets for the FA Cup final. He said it cost hime £120 but they are close to the pitch and he doesn't think he'll get to see them at Wembley for a while.

Wednesday 27/05/15

Into work on a pleasantly sunny morning. Went to West's for tea & a croissant.

Had Kate come in and do her usual bit where she assumes you know something and talks about it regardless of what you know... After a number of quations it turns out there was amajor cock-up during the special exams on Monday. One (possibly more) of the candidates went to save his work and the PC deleted it! The two TES people didn't know what to do so Kate got called in to see if she could save the day, which she did (finding the work in the temp file/folder). She then transferred it to a mac to be sure.

She actually came over to look at Bruce's PC as he'd managed to catch another email virus.

Finally got hold of Phil: he was a bit hacked off as people who were supposed to move printers today cancelled at 17.30 and said they will be there on Thursday. Even more galling for Phil is the fact that the printers have been drained and he's got work for Kettles Yard that he can't do.

Discussed what we can do & as Phil pointed out the frame forms are the same so I did 2000 of them.

Had a cheeky bastard email wanting A0 & A1 posters that he would pick up at 14.00. Had great pleasure in telling the cocksplurt that we couldn't do bigger than A3 and PandIS was closed.

Decided to re-draw the Senate House Yard map so could get it on the printer. there is some debate about having the disabled toilet/lift on the map following the construction of the robing room.

Nice to have a wander in the sun at lunchtime but it had, predictably, disappeared by home time.

Met Lou on Silver Street & into the Granta for a few beers. Got a bit cold so we ended up sitting inside while I explained to Lou the details of the fast-moving FIFA corruption investigation following the dawn raids.

Onto the Granta where Lou wanted to talk to Jo about passports & talk to Dick about doing some shifts in the pub while she was waiting for a new job.

Tuesday 26/05/15

Into work for a nice hot shower. Was just settling down to read the papers when (@ 08.20) Monica came in panicking as she had a course that she'd forgotten to ask us do the notes for.

She re-appeared 5 minutes later to apologise/say not to rush as she'd got the day wrong....

Did the job anyway and dropped it off in her office as she'd vanished.

Spent most of the day doing photos before meeting Lou in the Mitre. Had a few pints of London Pride as they had (shock) run out of Doom Bar. Thence to the Isaac. They had speedway on which was brilliant to watch.

Fun with Jim & Simon too - Jim had new phone because, according to Simon, Katie had run over his previous one due to finding phone numbers of other women on it.

Monday 25/05/15

Up mid-morning and into town for breakfast. Went to the Mitre for a change. Then to Lou;s office. Picked up a load of bags of stuff and returned home. Got the new suitcase & went back to her office & loaded it with material, DVDs etc.

Had humidity-induced sugar crash so had some coke & listened to the cricket. OMG! At one point NZ were 0-2!

Wheeled suitcase back during the lunch break and went to the Isaac for more cricket.

Somewhat slow going then I went to the bog for a slash and came out to find that we'd taken 2 wickets. Honestly, I wasn't in there that long!

Turns out they were in consecutive balls, including the captain, McCullin, going for a golden duck. We finally got them all out (with a brilliant catch from Ali) and won by 124 runs.

Had a nice surprise while waiting for the last wickets when scouse from Uni turned up with his fiance. They were on their way back to London & popped in to mark/remember the 10th anniversary of the miracle in Istanbul.

He also thought it was time for Rogers to go.

Oh & Norwich beat Boro in the play off final. High sixes all round.

Weekend 23/05 & 24/05/15

Staurday 23/05/15

Got up late and went back to Jesus Green for final day. Got the same table as Friday and tried some of the favourites from the past week. The Nitro Stout hadn't held up well (it was foul) but the Orchid was still good. Time turned up and then left again as he couldn't find his stewards vouchers (had to pop home). Once he returned he kept buying us beers, including the ones he like which were still on + some he hadn't got round to trying.

Had the bread & cheese, all 3 of which were nice. Tried to buy a t-shirt but they'd sold out on the Friday night.

It got increasingly busy as people finished shopping & the sun came out. So much so that they started to run out of glasses and had to use stuff scrounged from god knows where.

Left about 17.00 as there wasn't much beer & there were lots trying to buy the stuff that was left.

Top 3 beers voted for by me were:
1 Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster
2 Orchid
3 Nitro Stout

Top Ciders voted for by Lou were:
1 Spadger
2 PX Sherry Cask

[I voted for the same 2 but the other way round]

Sunday 24/05/15

Another late start so after watching FP3 on the BBC (kak)went to the Isaac at 11.30 for the Monaco GP. Was the usual glamorous & dangerous procession until shocking incidents:

1) Verstappen misjudged Gosjean's brakaing and hit him really hard
2) Versatappen going directly to the scene of the accident at St Devote, hitting with such violent force that he buried the car (making it difficult to pull out) destroying the tech-pro padding and bending the arnco behind it too
3) Mercedes pitting Hamilton (needlessly)
4) Hamilton coming out behind both Rosberg & Vettel

To say he wasn't happy is an understatement! TBF he showed good sportsmanship to congratulate Nico (who admitted that the wrong guy won) but the inquests will be long and hard.

Then switched to the footy... Oh dear.

LFC plumbed new depths of awfulness & were down by 5 goals by half time! Utterly unacceptable & in Stevie's last game too. x:(

HE did pull one back but then Crouch added a 6th. Lots of people very angry and this may be it for Brendan - he said judge him after 3 years and they did. We ended a terrible, shambolic season in 6th behind Spurs.

In other news, Newcastle finally won a game ensuring Hull (who got a creditable draw at Old Trafford (Fellaini sent off yet again)) were relegated.

Friday 22/05/15

My hips are bloody sore this morning. Still, only one more route march to Jesus Green to do.

Walking down past old people's home I saw something in the road. On getting closer scrutiny, saw it was a large piece of an exhaust. Deciding that it was better out of the road as people speed round the corner & would either hit it or spit it out at the car behind. Dodging the cars I popped into the road and picked it up. Ir was still warm!

Does make me wonder who the hell loses a large chunk of exhaust & doesn't notice (it was quite large suggesting a van or truck).

Finished packing lawn photos & went back to printroom to find Bruce playing classical music & TMS at the same time :¬/

An engineer finally turned up  & fixed worn belt that I'd pointed out to Bruce earlier n the week. Fixed around 16.00 so Bruce said to run the lot. Then he asked how long and I said about 90 minutes. He wasn't too happy about the time but i) he said to run them all & ii) if he'd have called engineer when I asked we'd have been doing it on Thursday or Friday morning.

Went to beer festival & got in the queue before Lou arrived. Managed to get a table in the corner of the tent and started to sample beers. Martin, Stu & ? joined us for chats. Lou & Stu had a bit of an arguement over women getting less for doing same jobs as men (Stu didn't believe it despite the rest of us telling him it does happen & often at that).

It was getting absolutely rammed so we left around 21.30 - bar was about 4-5 deep!

Walked home along river and looked at the pretty lights coming from something moored in the middle.

Thursday 21/05/15

A bright, if chilly, start to the day. Went for breakfast and then back to wear new boots. Feel a bit funny but not sure if supposed to be done up to the top or if just not used to tongue on top of foot.

German book was back in after doing another u-turn and deciding he did want to use a higher quality/different file after all.

Bruce in and, apparently in the grip of another hot flush, opened the windows.

FFS!

Just started printing the re-order forms when Bruce remembered that Emma had come in while I was on leave saying that she wanted to make some changes making to them. Saw Emma and she said they wanted to make a load of changes to the ways of re-ordering list.

Why the fuck does nobody tell me anything until I'm half way through things?!!

Told her to liaise with Phil.

Called Phil to give him a heads-up that he would be getting a call from Emma/Vince.

Asked Bruce if he'd called then engineer for the colour machine & he admitted he hadn't - some story about engineers getting charged but mre to do with wanting to do a job for a conference in 1 months time (ignoring my job that's needed much earlier & which I'd said would be ready by the end of the week).

Watched some of the cricket. England had a terrible start: at one point they were 30-4! They recovered strongly to reach 354-7 by the end of the day.

Went to the beer festival again and, the shock of it, sat outside in glorious sunshine! Heather made it and tried cider then switched to beer (repeat for next few hours).

Best of the night were:

Milton
Waterbeach,
est. 1999
Marcus Aurelius de la Rosa (7.8%)
The acknowledged delights of Marcus Aurelius are further enhanced with the addition of Port from our friends at Quinta de la Rosa. Velvety, rich and powerful, this is a special release for Cambridge Beer Festival.

My notes: Fuck me! Very strong & rich. Can taste the port.

Moncada
London
est. 2011
Notting Hill Ruby Rye (5.2%)
A robust ruby ale made with rye complemented by a fruity hop aroma.

My notes: Caramel aroma. Rich, deep bitter taste. Proper.

Binghams
Ruscombe, Berks
est. 2010
Doodle Stout (5.0%)
A dark stout with a delicious blend of dark malts to provide a complexity in character which draws you in for another sip. Named after the brewery dog called Stout that happens to be a labradoodle.

My notes: Dark chocolate/coffee aroma (mochachino?). Sweet start and dry finish.

Lou (and Heather) had a cider from Hallets ('PX Sherryy Cask" ?) that had been matured in sherry casks that tasted of a dry fino - lovely.

Wednesday 20/05/15

A sporadically busy day. Did 2 jobs for Hazel in the time it took Bruce to get a coffee (ie less than 45 minutes). Started to rain at lunchtime so, rather than the planned S&H 'Shroom burger, went and got pasta from next door.

Did a load of lawn photos in the afternoon after Bruce volunteered to finish some binding that I was 1/2 way through.

Left about 16.45 to head to the beer festival. Got there about the same time as Monday = slowing up. Met Lou inside and set about completing more of the bookmarked list.

Top tipple of the day was
East London (est. 2011)
Orchid 3.6%
A mahogany-coloured, slightly sweet a dark mild, lightly spiced with vanilla

My notes: Lovely chocolate aroma and dark mocha taste. Nearly as good as 4T's. (Lou like this so much she switched to it).

Worst tipple of the day was
Elgood's
(est. 1795)
Coolship 6.7%
Spontaneously fermented using wild yeasts in the brewery's traditional open cooling trays (the coolships) followed by ageing in oak barrels. Oak and fruit on the initial aroma precede a flavour of sharp apples and berries. Tannin from the oak underscores the finish as more fruit characters are revealed.

My notes: YUCK! Rank!!!

This was probably the 2nd worst beer I've had (after "Stewkey Gose" by Poppyland) and I was thankful that the barman gave me a taste rather than the 1/3 I ordered.

While we there a chinese lad turned up with the biggest fat-bastard burger ever. This was monster called 'Belly Buster' from Diasy's. For £10 you got 2 burgers (that looked like a steak), 2 rashers of bacon, 2 eggs, 2 slices of cheese & fried onions in a tomato bread roll. To our astonishment he actually finished it!

Had a pizza but it wasn't really great (though did get a lot of cheese on it). It was getting pretty cold so we pushed off around 20.30 and ended in the Isaac. Cme in towards the end of the Arsenal - Sunderland game. Sunderland really rode their luck but managed to hold out for a draw and a vital point that ensured their Premier League survival.

With Sunderland survibing the last place is between Hull & Newcastle. The money really must be on Hull (playing ManU away) as Newcastle (playing West Ham at home) only have to equal or better Hull's result (though they are capable of cocking this simple requirement up totally).

Tuesday 19/05/15

Got in to find that there was an urgent job for Sue - 10 x InDesign notes. Had them printed & bound by 08.40.

Quite a busy day at work, not helped by Bruce taking plenty of time off to chat to his brother.

Rained really hard on & off and then a massive hailstorm not long before running away time.

Went to the Isaac to talk to Jo about her passport problem thence to the Boathouse for the "A Pint of Science" event. Three quite interesting talks:
  • first an archeaologist/anthropologist who talked about her work in Kosovo (when they recovered some bodies they found they'd been booby-trapped with grenades or with open cut-throat razors in the pockets)
  • second a funny, entertaining talk by a bloke about the way the living & the dead interact & what the west thinks is the difference
  • third a vulcanologist talking about the different ways that volcanoes can influence other things
There was also a quiz, which we won (prizes = a t-shirt and a pint pot).

Popped to the Portland for a last pint and then home for sleep.

Monday beer festival winner's list

4T's
Runcorn, Cheshire est. 2010
Stout (4.9%)
A mouth-watering English stout, very well balanced and smooth. A combination of specialist malt gives it the biscuit, chocolaty, burnt notes at the start, then as the mouthful goes down you get the English hops breaking through giving you a burst of flowery tones.

My notes: Full, rich & 'chocolatey" = nice

Arbor Ales
Lawrence Hill, Bristol est. 2007
Nitro Stout (4.2%)

Black stout with flavours of roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of charcoal smoke.

My notes:  Chocolate & smoke - smokiness reminds me of "Mycroft" tea in Peacock's in Ely

Brentwood
Essex est. 2006
Hix's Darkside (7.0%)
Originally brewed for export to Discworld, this rich, dark oatmeal stout has since been aged for 2 years. Chocolate, treacle and dark fruit feature in both the aroma and flavour. Hop bitterness comes through more in the finish.

My notes:  Very rich aroma & taste - hints of plums or damsons

Humpty Dumpty
Reedham, Norfolk est. 1998
Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster (4.6%)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy says the effect of drinking a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick. This beer is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike that. Your brains will not be smashed out, but it is a golden beer and it has got lemon in.

My notes: Dangerously drinkable! Light bitterness with a lot of lemon in the finish.

Monday 18/04/15

What a miserable day! Woke up to it pissing down.

Went for breakfast and then over to the Senate House in the rain. Didn't take too long yo brake down even with me moving tables to dry area to take extenders off. The trouble with cold/damp conditions is that muscles get cold and makes lifting things harder. Finished by 10.30 and went to stand at the bus stop by Queen's for 15 minutes.

Over to find that Bruce had had even more trouble due to stupid garage and that he'd got wet too.

A couple of jobs waiting and then the 'indoor picnic' for Stella's retirement, including a superb cake.

At lunchtime Hazel came in to see where her manuals were. She'd sent them on Thursday afternoon & Bruce had missed them. I ran them out for her as she needed them for Tuesday AM. When Bruce reappeared he said he'd missed them because he was busy with jobs for Friday. Which he probably wouldn't have been if he hadn't have spent so many hours helping Hannah with her essay ....

Went to the Beer Festival after work: made it in 20 minutes door to door (bet I'll feel that later in the week).

Saw Tim & Julian Huppert has found himself something useful to do (ie serving beer). Monday night winners were 4T's "Stout", Humpty Dumpty's "Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster", Brentwood's "Hix's Darkside" and Arbour's "Nitro Stout". For Lou Kent's Double Vision "Cider" and Waddlegoose Lane's "Spadger" were the winners.

Weekend 16/05 & 17/05/15

Saturday 16/05/15

The day of the big May congregation: 1200 twats, 1100 of whom were there for their £40 MA.

A slow start but got pretty busy by the end (gobshites from the poxy colleges always buy stuff to reassure them that they went to the same university as people who go to the proper colleges).

Lots of fun chats about names: a bloke called Peacock who called his son Drew without thinking it through. Or saying it aloud. Poor kid!

A long day though 09.30 - 19.45 was knackering. Did get some grub (had to ask as they'd put the sandwiches away by the time I got a break). Ran out of frames so did a free upgrade for last skinflint twat who wanted a teak one.

Missed Stevie G's last game at Anfield completely. We also got beaten by Palace again. :¬(

Over to the Isaac for a G&T and a chat with Heather & Lou. Told them about Drew Peoacock & Lou said she didn't get it. Told her to say it faster....

Was going to order chips but load of knobs came in & ordered a pint and a meal individually. Home to bed for a long sleep.

Sunday 17/05/15

Got up late and went across the road for food & football. Lou did her usual wind-up on Jo, asking for chicken fajitas then ordering chicken & mash. Spicy vege wrap for me - lovely.

Heather came in for the 2nd match and got told off by Dick for reading all the papers at once then big Jim wound her up too. She went to the loo & the wife had to go and comfort her and cheer her up.

Swansea v City pretty good. ManUSA v Le Arse bloody terrible. In fact I said to Jim that Arsenal had done bugger all when they scored (via a wicked deflection).

Hung about for a while chatting & seeing Barcelona winning the title before heading home. Was still hungry so Lou made some spuds & one of the vegetable tarts that I'd got in Tesco. Bloody tasty even with the dreaded broccoli in it.

Friday, 15 May 2015

Friday 15/05/15

A sunny, chilly morning but at least it wasn't pissing down like yesterday. If I don't get ill from stress & repeated trips to & from the undercroft I'll be faintly astonished.

Quite a bit of work in from Dave who wandered past the window and then vanished for an hour. Also got a panicky call just as I was on the way out saying Paul had got the wrong date on the certificates!

Over to the Senate House and did the set-up relatively quickly.

Went over to the Bath with Lou and saw Dion Dublin at the bar.

Wandered up to the Isaac via the Pickeral. Heather was in with her friend and we spent quite a bit of time explaining cricket to her during the Nottinghamshire v Warwickshire 20-20 match.

Thursday, 14 May 2015

Thursday 14/05/15

A sunny start descended into the promised clouds - going to NMS later will be fun (might take the bus!).

Lou emailed me to say that she got a rejection letter from Cambridge Enterprise :¬(

Called her to gee her up a bit & point out that at least she got an interview.

A lot of work in while Bruce spent hours on the phone to Hannah to help her with her last essay (as he did with her dissertation). When she gets a good grade he should go up & receive the degree alongside her.

Just missed the 12.50 bus as it went early had to wait about 18 minutes for a bus due in 13. #stagecoachbusfail

Got to PandIS and went to get the key for the undercroft but it wasn't where it was supposed to be. Went over in the rain to see if locked. Was facing up to possibility that Phil had put it in his pocket before heading off to Chelsea when Jamie in Central Sites said he had a key. Don't know if this is one of the two rumoured to exist or an entirely separate one. Either way, it did mean that I could get stuff done instead of going back to RNB & leaving Trevor an apology.

In hindsight not a surprise that (nearly) a complete cock-up: 1 key that's missing & Phil focussing more on his side projects than the work that pays him was always going to lead to problems.

Anyway I was able to get in with the lights and bring back leaflets to put in folders. Did this until around 15.00 when went over to sort cages. It's quite dry but dusty in the undercroft and I spent quite a bit of time moving stuff about. Realised that some stuff was missing so had to make a number of trips (in the rain) back & forward to get bits & pieces that Phil had taken to PandIS & not transferred. Finished packing and then finished the folders & took them over too (in the still persistent rain).

Lou came over around 16.30 and we went over to the Regal to wait for Laura & Cerri for a nice chat & a not-as-good-as-usual curry.

Went home and crashed out pretty quickly.

Wednesday 13/05/15

Back to work. Only 106 emails waiting for me (mostly garbage from Amazon & spam/junk mail).

Spent morning not doing much (updated this instead) while Bruce struggled to get a massive job to run. Ended up doing some of it myself too in order to get it working. Had to do this as Bruce had managed to get an appointment at the hospital as his eye is getting worse. He reckons he's not been to an optician in 15 years anf that he can still drive with 1 eye. His brother says he has to tell his insurance company this otherwise, if he has an accident, they could refuse to payout.

A nice evening so went to the Carpenter's and a long chat with Dave P about food, computers etc. Got a call from Heather who was 'having a terrible week'. Went to the Isaac to cheer her up.

Turns out she's glum because she's realised that she can't afford to do a higher level degree like she planned, her job ends in December and she has never had a job interview. She's not very confidant in herself or her abilities so we spent a lot of the evening geeing her up and suggesting options for future lines of work (eg trainee journalist).

Around us the pub was mega busy as it was Real v Juventus. Again it was a good match with 2 contrasting styles. Real looked to be going through until Juve scored twice. Increasingly desperate efforts from the home side were to no avail and the Old Lady of Turin go to meet the most dangerous front 3 in the world in Berlin.

Tuesday 12/05/15

Up late & put washing out/ Long walk to Newmarket Road along the river. Went to Tesco's & then to Curry;s to look at PCs/modems (both expensive). Found that the old furniture shop is now a Dunelm Mills one (saw a box of the type Lou is looking for fore SP stuff). Looked around Homebase for barrel ideas without success. Home (into the wind) along the river.

Put another load of washing on and sorted washed stuff into piles. The to the Isaac for a well-earned pint. Went to the Mitre for 20% Tuesday then back to the Isaac where we ended up watching Barcelona v Bayern Munich. a really good game, the 3 Barca scored at home & the 2 in Mucnich seeing them ease into the final.

Monday 11/05/15

Up early & over to West Cambridge for Lou's interview. She'd stupidly made herself sick worrying about it & if I hadn't have been with her may have bolted!

I waited in West's while she was in. She reckoned she'd screwed it up which means it went well....

Over to her office for a while ad the to the library for a bit. Met Lou in the Pint Shop garden for a beer. As it got chilly we went to the Isaac and watched truly mental footy match. League 1 play-off 2nd leg between Swindon & Sheffield United. Swindon leading 2-from the 1st leg, 1 scored inside 3 minutes and were 3 up in the game inside 17 minutes. After even more comedy defending from both sides the game ended 5-5!!!

Feel a bit sorry for Sheffield: if you score 5 away you'd expect to be in the play-off final not lose 7-6!

Sunday 10/05/15

Up quite late and wandered down to the Portland for the race. We were joined by a large lady & her rather excitable Alonso-supporting kid (3?).

Good race though Alonso was out when his visor tear-off strip went into the brake duct & fried his rears. He came in hot & mechanic showed good reactions to jump out of the way! Front jackman for Lotus wasnt so lucky: Grosjean came in & his brakes went meaning he hit the poor fellow right in the plums! We saw him later with a large bag of ice on his nuts. After Rosberg's win we went up the road to the Isaac for the Chelsea v LFc game. Wasn't a great match but a point away against the new champions is OK I guess. It could have been more if the witless wanker in the middle hadn't bottled the decision & let Fabregas stay in despite hcommitting multiple fouls.

Educated big Jim about politics & what the elction result meant as, while he votes, he said he didn't really know much about either.

Saturday 09/05/15

Up and into town after 'watching' FP3 on twitter. Jo's placewas very busy as usual so we went to Clowns. Nice coffee spoiled by fuckbrained brat bint with no volume control. Hope she fails spectacularly.

Dropped shopping off and went to Isaac for Qualy but Ipswich v Norwich (brilliantly labeled "El Tractoro" & 'The Old Farm" derby by some wags) was on every TV. Went to the Portland and asked if they had the F1 and if they could put it on. They were happy to do so so we watched it there. IN between sessions (Rosberg with a belter of a lap for pole) I asked Lou potential interview questions.

Went to the Champ to meet Tim for a few beers. He's trying to sign Lou up as a cox.

Went home via the Grapes

Friday 08/05/15 - Election? Fuck!

A terribly depressing morning (after watching TV until 03.45).

Cameron on course to govern on his own and the moon-faced lizard cunt has 5 years to gut the country. No NHS, no social housing, no human rights act a snoopers charter and foxhunting etc...

The big casualties were Ed Balls, Simon Hughes, George Galloway, Ester McVey & Danny Alexander. The only highlights were Caroline Lucas increasing her majority and Nigel Farage getting beaten (this ine was declared late morning). Danial Zeichner beat Julian Huppert by about 500 votes.

Went to Lou's office so she could do research & prep for job interview.

Farage followed up on his promise to quit as leader of UKIP if he didn't get elected.

Sort of: he said he might stand for leader again in the Autumn. Something Laura Kuensberg labelled as a 'Vicky Pollard' resignation ("Yeh but No bit Yeh").

Nick Clegg followed suit following their virtual wipeout (he was one of only 8 FibDems to survive the night, out of 57!). Ed Milliband resigned too making it 3 leaders to go in under an hour!

Both Clegg and Milliband were very humble in defeat (with some defiance thrown in). Jim Murphy resigned as the leader of the Scottish Labour Party too. Cameron must have been very happy when he went to Buck House.

Update" He 'Unresigned' on Monday 11/05/15 making him look like the type of lying, hypocritical arsehole politican he claims to be different from.

Still I'm sure his deputy did a good job during a difficult weekend.

Thursday 07/05/15

Up around 09.00 and down to vote.

Maybe due to large number of students who were voting for the fist time, we had to queue!

Went to the Fitz to see the Michaelangelo statues then for cheese scones & tea in the sunshine.

Went over to the Grafton & browsed the charity shops - Lou got a nice black dress that she can put over something else. Saw a great sign outside the Red Cross.

Popped into the Hopbine for a pint ("Hurricane" by Buntigford) then over to the Portland (in a rainstorm) as load of load women on next table.

Whilst checking her email Lou found she'd got an interview for Cambridge enterprise on Monday!

Ambled back to the Isaac to plot interview strategy then home for pies that we'd got in Ely - vege one very tasty.

Nice to see Wisteria starting to bloom on the way home.

Turned on the election coverage to the horrifying news that the exit poll predicted a Tory win, the FibDems getting wiped out & Labour getting thrashed by the SNP in Scotland.

Update: turns out the BBC exit poll was right and all the others faecial garbage.

Wednesday 06/05/15

Up at the crack of 11am and over to the Regal for Breakfast. Ordered a big one (ooeer) which was to much foo for me (even without eating properly on Tuesday).

Went to the 3 shop and got a 1 month contract extension. Went to the Catle but there was a ton of people (all ordering food & beer individually & in single file - knobbers) so we went across the road.

Got a message from Mac saying a parcel had arrived. Went to the RNB at 15.00 and, to my surprise, it was the rifle stock that was supposed to have arrived a couple of weeks earlier (gave a 'neutral' review due to late arrival & complete lack of contact from seller. Would have given a 'negative' one but the item is nice).

Joined Lou in the ISaac and had another nice surprise as a (slightly squiffy) Antoinette was in. She'd off to the Amazon for a cruise and then to "Matchy Pitchy".

Tuesday 05/15/15

A massive lie-in until the crack of 1.30pm then to the Isaac and no further. Spent the afternoon reading & tweetin. And looking at hot French girls :¬)

Bought two watches to replace broken ones. Wondered if they'd turn up before the rifle stock.

Mariole's last day so (c/o Samsung translation app) wished her goodbye & good luck.

Watched Juve v Real. A good game ending 2-1 to Juve (but it's only 1/2 time).

Monday 04/05/15

Every time somebody tweets "May the Fourth" etc Darth Vader chucks a kitten into the garbage comapctor.

Up late (and hungover) so a trip to The Haymakers for nomnom pizza.

Ambled back to the Isaac & met a very 'jaded' Heather. Left before footy for tapas and sherry.

Weekend 2 03/05/15

WET!

Went to meet Sonja, Panlo & JF at The Mitre bit it wasn't open at the time it said on the website. Went next door to the Baron and had food (OK but a bit expensive) and coffee (really good). Went to Sainbury's for sherry to go with tapas dishes we'd got in Ely, thence to the Isaac.

*Grits teeth* Congratulations to Chelski.

One of the finest days for the clubs since Roman Abramovic founded it way back in 2003.

Had been in the pub for a while when Heather turned up. Wearing a flag. And a "Champions" t-shirt. And with a flag. She was a bit happy!

Hung about and ended up entering the quiz. Considering most of the team were trollied (and we finished the 1st round joint last) we were pleased/happy to come 5th out of 10.

Weekend 1 02/05 Ely Eel Day

Saturday 02/05/15

Up relatively early for 'Ely Eel Day'. Keft an hour early as Lou wanted to get to station really early. When realised we popped home & added bigger coats & a corset for Lou. Got to Ely around 09.50 & had a quick walkabout before meeting at Peacock's.

Amazingly Jamie & Mags were on time! Peacocks was really nice & had around 50 types of tea, including ones named after 'Holmsian' characters. I had "Mycroft"- very smokey aroma and slightly smokey taste. Lou has "Moriarty" - a mild chai tea.

While we there the Eel day parade went past.

It was good to chat to Sue, Phil etc. Afterwards we went to see the set-up of the green while everyone else went to the antiques place next door. Most places were still setting up but did see a tank of eels & Lou bottled out of trying eel (did get a goat curry from Lincolnshire). As there were only kids fucking about we went to the antiques warehouse ourselves. It's a really ace place and an Aladdin's cave of stuff. Got a military hat for £10: could have spent £££s. We plan to go back, maybe at Christmas for presents.

Returned to the park for more shit dancing by kids and beer/cider. Had "Eel Day" & "Larksong"by Mile Tree Brewery (est 2012 in Wisbech) and blackcurrent cider form another local place. After more chats we went ti t "The Cutter Inn" - saw a piano that plays itself. Home via Tesco's & Lou's office. Changed, went to the Isaac & scared the shit out of Heather who was painting her nails & didn't see me come in. Watched the cricket then popped over to see how Lou & her knee was doing. She was nowhere to be found in the flat. She was in the Isaac, having gone round the corner as I went in the back.

Friday 01/05/15

Pinch, punch and all that jazz.

Forgot phone this morning as was distracted by Lou waving her tits at me!
