As Ceri had cancelled the meet-up in London we found ourselves with a free day. Had got in touch with Tim to arrange work on walking sticks so he picked us up at around 11am. Went over to their house and while Lou, Ali & Livi tackled the garden we went outside to make stuff.
Cut down the 2 pool cues, then sawed the end off the bolt on the door handle with a jig-saw, drilled a small hole, screwed in the bolt and then screwed the knob on.
Started to drill the little T-pot. Christ! Was that ever frigging solid. Had to put it to one side for a while as it was getting soo hot it was painful to hold. Broke a drill bit trying to make more than a dent in it!
We first removed on of the metal bits of the clarinet that meant it wouldn't lie properly. We then drilled holes in/through the clarinet to put screws through. Had a bit of difficulty finding screws of right size (some too long & some too short). Used piece of cut-down end from one of the cues to join the two barrel pieces together then screwed rear piece into place. Drilled holes up through hinge holes and into front of the barrel, then added screws for extra hold. Will add epoxy glue into holes to make sure doesn't move. Just need to add a carrying sling & give it a good polish to make it ready to display.
T-pot had now cooled enough to have another go. Finally, after much effort got the drill through. Once we'd made the hole a bit bigger we married it up with the other cue.
While we'd been doing this the girls had decimated the garden so after we'd cleared up the debris we went to the Earl of Derby for a pint.
They had the Tour on 1 screen but Tim wanted to wait for the highlights so we watched the SA v NZ rugby game instead.
Got a taxi to the Isaac but nobody about so dropped stuff off at home & went to Castle for food. Wandered back to find pub open so went in. A good party and lots of food, people & SYL's. Band was good: the singer was hot and had a voice that reminded me of a young Lulu.* Lou & her stunt-double, Miranda, had a bop.
It was also Ratter's birthday & she popped in for a drink too.
A good day & a manlymen day too.
Sunday 26/07/15
A bit jaded so just went into town to get some folders for Lou & bread/cheesecake/cat food.
It started to piss down.
Beat Pat to the pub! He had been unwell and ended up with a pacemaker :¬0
Saw the Maxwell's going past with large umbrellas. Said we were going to watch the GP & the Tour. The race in Budapest was mental: lots of incidents, Hamilton driving like a rookie loon and Rosberg throwing away a chance for serious points. Due to the rain in Paris the organisers declared that the clock would stop when peleton crossed the line the 1st time. Probably the right decision as there had been loads of bad crashes in the women's race earlier in the afternoon.
In any case meant that Chris Froome won both the yellow jumper (for the 2nd time) and the polkadot KoM one too.
Then Heather arrived for much mockage and scoff ('Are you all right in there Jimmy Anderson's head?'). Saw the Maxwell's coming back too (had rained so much it had come through Angie's brolly). They were amazed that we'd been there all day but said it was a series of events so not really planned like that.
Ended up doing the quiz where we weren't terrible but weren't brilliant either. Mid-table mediocrity.
* Apparently she was a stand-in for the usual singer who was on holiday. She was brilliant
