Tuesday 28/07/15
Fun & games in morning as UMS guy, John, refused to take box of clear-face bags as 'They are stationary and we don't do stationary, only mail, hence the name.' He went on to say that they would have to review the whole collection/delivery between here and PandIS.
Emailed Phil & told Sue, who sent Steve Mathews a sharply worded email. He, apparently, came back & apologised and said that he'd talk to the employee.
Did all the photos (with help from Sue) but a bit pointless as Loren did the bulk mail at about 14.30-15.00. Don't know why she doesn't wait until later.

Monday 27/07/15
Back to work after what seemed like a long weekend.
Did onlines for Phil then settled into watch the staff meeting. Actually got name-checked for doing the packing (for the 1st time in 10 years)!
Bloke talking about the NW & W Cambridge developments was interesting. That said plans will change and Will take fucking years to happen in any case.
After work went to the Isaac. Watched Jaspar zooming around the pub on his scooter. Chatted about assorted stuff then home for omlettes and cheesecake.

Weekend 25/07 & 28/07
Saturday 25/07/15
As Ceri had cancelled the meet-up in London we found ourselves with a free day. Had got in touch with Tim to arrange work on walking sticks so he picked us up at around 11am. Went over to their house and while Lou, Ali & Livi tackled the garden we went outside to make stuff.
Cut down the 2 pool cues, then sawed the end off the bolt on the door handle with a jig-saw, drilled a small hole, screwed in the bolt and then screwed the knob on.
Started to drill the little T-pot. Christ! Was that ever frigging solid. Had to put it to one side for a while as it was getting soo hot it was painful to hold. Broke a drill bit trying to make more than a dent in it!
We first removed on of the metal bits of the clarinet that meant it wouldn't lie properly. We then drilled holes in/through the clarinet to put screws through. Had a bit of difficulty finding screws of right size (some too long & some too short). Used piece of cut-down end from one of the cues to join the two barrel pieces together then screwed rear piece into place. Drilled holes up through hinge holes and into front of the barrel, then added screws for extra hold. Will add epoxy glue into holes to make sure doesn't move. Just need to add a carrying sling & give it a good polish to make it ready to display.
T-pot had now cooled enough to have another go. Finally, after much effort got the drill through. Once we'd made the hole a bit bigger we married it up with the other cue.
While we'd been doing this the girls had decimated the garden so after we'd cleared up the debris we went to the Earl of Derby for a pint.
They had the Tour on 1 screen but Tim wanted to wait for the highlights so we watched the SA v NZ rugby game instead.
Got a taxi to the Isaac but nobody about so dropped stuff off at home & went to Castle for food. Wandered back to find pub open so went in. A good party and lots of food, people & SYL's. Band was good: the singer was hot and had a voice that reminded me of a young Lulu.* Lou & her stunt-double, Miranda, had a bop.
It was also Ratter's birthday & she popped in for a drink too.
A good day & a manlymen day too.
Sunday 26/07/15
A bit jaded so just went into town to get some folders for Lou & bread/cheesecake/cat food.
It started to piss down.
Beat Pat to the pub! He had been unwell and ended up with a pacemaker :¬0
Saw the Maxwell's going past with large umbrellas. Said we were going to watch the GP & the Tour. The race in Budapest was mental: lots of incidents, Hamilton driving like a rookie loon and Rosberg throwing away a chance for serious points. Due to the rain in Paris the organisers declared that the clock would stop when peleton crossed the line the 1st time. Probably the right decision as there had been loads of bad crashes in the women's race earlier in the afternoon.
In any case meant that Chris Froome won both the yellow jumper (for the 2nd time) and the polkadot KoM one too.
Then Heather arrived for much mockage and scoff ('Are you all right in there Jimmy Anderson's head?'). Saw the Maxwell's coming back too (had rained so much it had come through Angie's brolly). They were amazed that we'd been there all day but said it was a series of events so not really planned like that.
Ended up doing the quiz where we weren't terrible but weren't brilliant either. Mid-table mediocrity.
* Apparently she was a stand-in for the usual singer who was on holiday. She was brilliant

Have you ever been on streetview
On absolute Radio they asked if anybody had been captured on street view.
Man responded that his wife was. He relayed the story as follows:
"She got out of the car an was pulling her nickers out of her arse."

Been busy
That's the summer graduations over.
Thank fuck!
Busiest ever general admission & a ridiculous 12 hour one in July!
Also some fucker either didn't order enough vege sandwiches or some utter cunt ate my share. Either way I hope that twats involved get a severe case of V&D that lasts 7 days.
[Update - so far in July I have packed more that 1300 orders !]

UnFuckingBelievable
After a week off Bruce casually mentioned that he'll be out at lunchtime till early afternoon as he'd 'got' to accompany a music candidate.
Additionally some utter cocksplurt decided that the July congregation would finish about 8.45pm!
Next time the University claims to be poor I'll be pointing out that they can afford to pay loads of people for 12 hours overtime on a Saturday.
Hope whoever decided this (even if it's Tim Milner) gets to spend the exact amount of time that I'm worked evacuating his bowels.
Painfully.

Tuesday 07/07/15
1 year since the Tour de France started in Cambridge.
10 years since 4 criminals killed & injured hundreds by blowing themselves up on the tube/bus.
Utter cunts. Hope they are burning in hell for all eternity with no virgins (or if they do get them I hope they are 25 stone & all called Steve).
Good job that UMS are being utter, utter twats as the printroom is mega busy.
Called Natalie in between doing loads of printing and she said that they still hadn't collected the stuff from last week so that's a minimum of 2.5 days delay. Thay are now claiming that they can't get on the NMS due to the building work but that doesn't stop UPS, the Post Office etc!
Update: two boxes turned up early afternoon.
Lou had an interview at the Moller Centre at lunchtime which she said went well. Might be into the last 4.

Monday 06/07/15
A week without Bruce and predictably it suddenly gets busy!
No photos either in the morning or afternoon deliveries. Called Natalie and there's a load awaiting collection & have been since Thursday. Apparently the UMS wouldn't collect them and are "evaluating collections from PandIS".
Twats!
If you don't want the job I'm sure the University could find plenty of people who'd be happy to do it for you cocksplurts x:¬(
Gave me chance to watch the Tour while printing other shit. Massive, horrific crash about 55Kms out and a lot of riders badly injured. Then there was another big crash straight after. The stage was neutralized and then stopped as they'd run out of medics at the front. Led to lots of abandonments, most notably the Maillot Jaune who got up, finished the stage but then had to pull out with fractured vertabrae.
Cancellara came a cropper in a crash caused in a fall by the FDJ rider William Bonnet, who lost control of his bike after clipping the back wheel of the rider in front of him, bringing down nearly two dozen other riders.Bonnet was a real mess. having tumbled along the road and ended in a neck brace. As well as Bonnet, who also suffered fractured vertebrae, Orica-GreenEdge rider Simon Gerrans, Giant-Alpecin’s Tom Dumoulin and Team Katusha’s Dmitry Kozontchuk were also forced to abandon. One rider (Laurens ten Dam ?) had his dislocated shoulder pushed back in in the road. Most of the injured got back up and cycled on. Tough bastards these cyclists.
Pictures of the Aftermath
To the Architect for a change. Filled Lou in about all the above & she told me about A's divorce.
To the Isaac where old chap asked me which was the bitterest bitter, a question I'd never been asked before.

Sunday 05/07/15
Up very late and just went over to the pub for the racing.
An unbelievable start for both Williams as they both beat the Merc's off the line. Then Williams cocked it up, first ordering Bottas not to pass his team-mate and then cocking up the pitstops too.
In the meantime the two Lotuses took each other out, hitting Alonso who then hit Button. Another British GP goes by for poor Jenson & it might be his last too (and he didn't even complete a lap).
Crash
Hamilton got them with undercut and won the race with Rosberg moving into second as Bottas & Massa couldn't keep the cars under control in the wet. To make it worse for Williams, Vettel took the 3rd podium spot and they ended up 4th & 5th (Bottas looked distinctly unhappy with that, understandably).
Over to Le Tour and what looked like a tricky day turned out just that way as the peleton was slpit into a number of groups due to crashes and a big storm. Froome & Contador were in the lead group and put serious time into both Quintana & Nibali (87 seconds).
Chavenal took the yellow jumper (Dennis was in the group with Nibali etc) after getting 3rd on the line from Cav & getting the 4 second bonus. Cue recriminations all round: Stage 2 article
Cav was criticised for not trying to which he responded furiously, calling his critics "imbeciles" & saying it wasn't a 'video game'. Which was odd, as one of those critricising was the boss of his own team!
In the meantime .... It's Bagwoman!

Saturday 04/07
Despite it being quite sunny (after a major thunderstorm which I slept through) we spent most of the weekend inside watching sport.
Saturday 04/07/15
Up late and to the Isaac for qualifying + the prologue of the tour in Utrecht + the memorial bike ride.
Qualy was boring to be honest as it was pretty much as expected to start with. Both comedy cars/teams went out early doors. It's getting truly embarrassing for McLaren now: they're competing with/just beating a team that was in administration at the start of the season!
In the end Hamilton did just enough to beat Rosberg to top spot. The big surprise was that the Williams beat the Ferari's to the 2nd row.
Heather came in during this to watch the tennis (well perve over Roger F really). We told her about the ride and she came out to watch - was fanatastic: hundreds of bikes riding right past the pub.
After the tennis was over she came over to sit with us. A friend, Abby, turned up as they planned to go to the food park event too.
The tour time trial was great to watch and was won by Rohan Dennis of BMC. He was the only guy to go below 15 minutes and he set a new speed record (60+ KPH) as well.
Walked over to Madingley Rise and queued for the food park in the sun. Decided to sit outside. Beer/wine was very expensive: £3 for a 300ml can/£3.50m for a (small) glass!
Had a meze platter from The Wandering Yak. really tasty (forgot to take a photo).
Lou had beef & spicy salad from GoGo Gogi Gui

Had churros for seconds (too sweet for me so shared them out)
Then had probably the best ice cream I've ever had from Jack's Gelato. Lou snaffled the Vanilla and Marsala so I had the mango (also delish).

Friday 03/07/15
Another warm day. Did the remaining 92 orders.
Had a break outside when the fire-alarm went off. Speculation rife that the building finally got so hot it had caught fire.
The mounts finally turned up - apparently the pillocks tried to deliver it to NMS yesterday, despite being told. Carting those in with Jim was hard, hot work. Had to stow loads in the bottle store as a temporary measure.
To the Isaac for beer imbibing session.

Thursday 02/07/15
Another warm day (not as bad as yesterday). Lou came over and we had breakfast at Wests. It's nice to sit on the balcony & sip tea while looking out over the countryside.
Lou came to the office and did an application form for the Möller Centre - she has an interview next week but the woman said she hadn't done an application form. Not really a surprise as there wasn't one on their website...
Managed to get the laptop to connect to the uni wifi. Hurrah! So it's just home & the Isaac it doesn't seem to like.
The 1st of the photos from GA finally came in this afternoon. Managed to get 60 done before running away time.
Met Lou in the Isaac. She'd managed to get the laptop working with Dick's dial-up-speed wifi (using the trick I'd found to connect up here).
Watched Nadal getting knocked out by a dreadlock-wearing German called Brown. A good game, in so far as I'm any judge.
Suggested to Johnny that he gets a hi-viz jacket/coat & a D-Lock for his new moped which he thought were good ideas.

How the fuck is it July all ready?
Looks like being a scorching day: at 09.45 it was 27.4!
It finally topped out at 33.9º C.!
Went over to the food park for lunch (in the aforementeioned temperature and high winds) and tried a ciabatta with haloumi etc from Tin Kitchen for a change. Pretty tasty but if/when have it again I'll ask for no tomato.
Went to the pub with Lou and tried to get the new laptop working - still doesn't connect to wifi. Think there's something wrong with it! Gave up and went outside to sit in the sun.

Tuesday 30/06/15
A bloody hot day (peaking at 27.8° C)!
Didn't do a lot (or anything) as only 1 job for each of us. Had a nice long walk in the sunshine at lunchtime.
A day of good & bad news:
Good
After work went to the Isaac and sat in the sun with Heather & Jim (gave Heather the bag with the yearbooks, the egg cosy book & her beer festival glass). Had a nice time before the girls went inside to have some shade.
Tim turned up later to look at the tea pot to go on a cue. Thinks should be doable.
Had a long chat with him about family etc: Olivia off to Brugge with school, Harry started part-time job (?). Told him & Heather that "The Big Weekend" is on in a few weeks.

Good
- Jessica passed her viva with only minor corrections
- Helen Morrison's mother died after a long illness
- Kauto Star was put down after suffering injuries to his pelvis & neck in fall
