Once more she got defeated (58 votes this time).
So MPs voted on a series of 'indicative votes' on alternatives on Monday (eg customs union, revocation etc).
Nothing gained a majority (though Ken Clarke's customs union only lost by 3).
Oh & Nick Boles resigned from the Toxic Tories citing their failure to compromise/back his proposal.
After a marathon cabinet meeting on Tuesday May gave another of those presidential TV statements she's so fond of. She said as nothing could command a majority she would work with Corbyn to find something that could.
Cue massive uproar in the Toxic Tories. The ERG were incandescent and the DUP pretty much the same. #Brexshitters all raged to the media about 'betrayal', 'defying the will of the people', handing 'Control to a Marxist' (the last from Moggodon).
While all this was going on the rest of Europe were watching aghast!
There's now talk of a coup but that's difficult as the December plot gives her the rest of the year. There's talk of an election but that would require a lengthy extension, assuming that the EU27 haven't tired totally of this shambles.
In the meantime, many have pointed out that she's laid a dangerous trap for Corbyn:
- If the pair find a compromise he'll share ownership & blame for Brexit (and the electoral damage that will do to Labour from Remainers & the young will be bloody)
- If they don't find a compromise he'll still get the blame for not compromising and therefore blocking Brexit
And all the while the clock ticks on.
In law, unless the EU27 relent, we exit at 23.00 12/04/19.
What a fucking mess!
