Who needs peer reviews by experts?

America's No1 Trumpanzee has announced that in future all scientific research done by the EPA has to be checked by political wonks before publication (in the extremely unlikely event that it's passed for publication). This sort of thing is just the start...

LFC v SFC

I'm just going to post the tweets I did after last night's debacle

Cold coffee

Bruce just told a friend on the phone that he wouldn't be spending a lot of time in the common room having coffee as it's too cold!

What a fucking admission to make ...

Weekend 21/22 January

Saturday

Up very early & went to Jo's for breakfast burrito (yummy) then to the library to read while waited for lunchtime. After debating whether to go to pub to watch LFC v SCFC or the winter ale festival we chose beer.

Good job as LFC managed to implode against the worst fucking team in the league. I'm not going to type any more about this as I'm still too fucking angry.

Had some good beer - winner was Three Blind Mice's "Pirate Pop". Odd (chocolate & lime) but really tasty.

Back to Isaac via M&S and ended up watching the Spuds v City game which was entertaining. Couldn't enjoy too after shite at Anfield.

Had kind of tart/flan thing (OK but a bit peppery) and watched "Deadpool" on DVD. Haven't laughed so much in ages.

Away from all that, there was a massive march in Washington (4 times number who attended the inauguration) and in many cities around the world. London alone had an estimated 100,000 people demonstrating against Trump/hate/for civil rights/for women's rights.

One of my favourite signs was

Sunday

After lazy morning watching "Sunday Brunch" (very funny with Johnny Vegas coming over slightly stalker on Will Arnet) strolled over the road to the Isaac.

It was little Jim's 60th birthday so got him a beer then he got us some port that he'd had for ages & not drunk. He'd brought it into the pub and Dick transferred it to a new bottle to get rid of the sediment. It was a lovely aged port.

Watched some more football then home for TV catching up - "Taboo" & "The Halcyon".

Fuck! It really happened

A shit-flinging gibbon was crowned Emperor of the World on Friday.

He did a speech written for him by Steve Bannon (as it turned out he'd been drawing willies for 3 days instead of writing stuff). one of the things he was banging on about was that he'd create American jobs by forcing companies to bring back production from China.

Which immediately backfired as people gleefully pointed out that his own 'Make America Great Again' merchandise (and lots of his other clothing) was made in ... China!

In other news fewer people turned up to hear his speech. The WH then went onto hilariously deny the obvious and then gave even funnier reasons:
  • It was a Friday so people would be at work, unlike Obama's inaugurations which happened on a Monday & a Tuesday
  • The weather was bad - TBF it did rain as he started speaking but people hadn't turned up when it was dry

The Daily Fail twitter feed posted the above. Here's the evidence:

Left: 2 million turn up to watch America's 1st black president being sworn in. Right: quater of a million turn up to watch America's 1st orange president being sworn in.

I did suggest that there were the same number of people as all the klu klux clan had turned up in their ceremonial robes....

It got even funnier when the Kellyanne Conway calinmed that Sean Spicer's comments were (I shit you not) "Alternative Facts" [ Conway Alternative Facts ]

As you can imagine, that prompted a LOT of mockery on social media.

Returned

One of the large envelope's I'd spent my time packing & sending to the Department of Clinical Neurosciences came back today.

I'm actually surprised that more haven't been returned. Bruce said he'd heard that people had been phoning up to complain about massive waste of paper that Monica has arranged & that should be online.

Opened the envelope, tipped out the booklets & packed for other departments.

Update: 19/01/17
Had another envelope returned, this time from Estate Management (with a request that we don't send more than 50 to Greenwich House in future). Told Monica who appears to be getting a bit worried. Also she didn't seem to realise that Estate Management is based all over the University!

Trump Inauguration

The number of stars and musicians who have refused to play the chump's inauguration is plain embarrassing but not as bad as who he has actually got: a Bruce Springsteen E-Street cover band will perform after the real band told him to go fuck himself.

Asked about this (and the fact that they are hiring people to attend the ceremony & the ball afterward) a spokesman said something along the lines of

"The inauguration will have a soft sensuality"

Which prompted this image to come into many minds ....

Monday 16/01/17

Got into find this shit in inbox (along with an urgent request from idiot Monica who spent all last week pissing about over training booklets but forgot about a class).

Utter joke! The bloke is about as much use as a marzipan dildo! I'd love to see him try and tell Engineeering (bring in around 10% of the University's entire income) that they can have their printroom merged for 'efficiencies'. Ditto the old Schools. ... Think the response he'd get would be 3 words, 5 vowels & 10 consonents*

We all know he's Martin Bellamy's poodle & is going trough the motions before recommending axing the department.

Time to start working on a new CV?

Update: 20/01/17

Got sent this

* Piss Off Smeaghead

Weekend Viewing 14 & 15 January 17

Saturday morning was spent getting food for cats & food for curry/shepherds pie for us. Also got head shaved got cut on the neck too by bloke (not hot readhead).

In the afternoon we finally got around to watching "Kubo & The Two Strings" - a stop-motion animation that we'd first seen at Comicon in May. Utterly brilliant gem of a story, intelligent & quite dark.

We also watched the 1st episode of, the Tom Hardy serial "Taboo". Looked good so we watched the 2nd part later on BBC1. Then we watched ITV's new show called "The Halcyon" which really enjoyed and, for once, will attempt to watch rest of the series.

Sunday morning was spent in bed. We had talked of going to Jo's for mustardy, creamy mushroom but it was pissing down. Over to the Isaac and watched Everton batter a hapless Citeh. Four-nil was a more than fair score. Also two teenagers scored, Davies with a man-of-the-match performance and Lookman who scored with his 2nd touch (his 1st touch was controlling it).

Then onto the main event: The Scum v The Redmen (in the horrible green highlighter kit).

Pogba should have been off for grabbing Lovren (?) round the throat, as even the Mancs sat around us agreed. He also gave away the penalty which was converted. From then on LFC tried to defend and hit on the counter. Did more of the former than the latter. Kept being pressed backwards and, inevitably ended up conceding. Frustrating!

On the other hand, The Special Once had the cheek to claim that Liverpool were defensive after fielding a 1-10-bus formation at Anfield. Again #Irony

Home for last (ever?) "Sherlock". Not quite sure what to make of it. Enjoyed the programme but felt a bit wrong, more Bond than Slueth.

Monday 09/01/17

Busy day, sort of.

Got voluntold by Bruce to pack leaflets he's printing into envelopes/boxes for distribution to departments. Labels came in two types so when had list had to search through both for correct one (and not in alphabetical order either).

Complained that we shouldn't be doing this for Monica as she has an admin assisatant & this isn't what I'm paid to do.

Response was essentially:

1) It's UIS departmental work so takes precendence
Which is cock - if that's true why are you doing lab & MSM work instead of printing 1000's more booklets?

2) We need to justify existance to some degree with Cuntdip
No point as the spastic jizztrumpet will simply recommend closure anyway (has already hinted at this in the hatchet job on PandIS)

3) Monica's admin assistant isn't there very often
Fail to see how her staff going walkies is anything to do with us!

As Lu said, it soesn't matter how much he tries, Monica is 'never going to drop her pants & spread her legs'.

*And breathe*

Went to Isaac for a few and ended up staying for the Cambridge - Leeds match (weren't intending to). A lot of old faces in (eg Eric, Steve Bunns, Zep & Joe). Madelaine & Brian came in too (still very frail but ate burger with gusto & looked better for it).

A good game & the cheer when Cambridge scored was huge! Did say to Lou that dind't know how long United could keep up pressing game & LUFC wouldn't be that bad again. Was proved right as the higher-ranked team found their rhythm in the second half and scored (defender completely lost opponent for 1st and 2nd was another free header too).

Still Cambridge acquited themselves well.

Oh & if we beat Plymouth we play Wolves at home. KirstyLFC was in shock: she worked at Wolves and her boyfriend is a season-ticket holder. She says he'll be watching at the other end & she'll meet him outside afterwards!

Update 10/01/17

Lynn came in and talked to Bruce and both actually said that we shouldn't be doing the packing!

Also agreed that this is a pointless & expensive task that's being done too late.

Weekend 7/8 Jan

Saturday 07/01/17

Out of the house at 11.30 (Lou was 'finishing' 1 Jonathan Creek then stated watching another episode) and over to Wilko (washing stuff + cat food) then to Superdrug for new washbag.

Dropped stuff off and went down to the Portland for cheesy chilli chops. Yum.

Back via the Carpenters to say happy new year to Dave, Toddy & Cath + Keith.

Chilli with creme fraiche to cool it down, for te.

Sunday 08/01/17

Just watched Sunday Brunch in morning then over to Isaac for FA Cup game against Plymouth. Klopp selected the youngest team ever (9 under 23/5 teenagers). Layed quite well but bloody frustrating as Argyle had about 8 or 9 men in the box every time we got near. In the 1st half we had 80% possession!

Ended 0 - 0 which was annoying (and we'd brought Sturridge etc on too).

Odd: people complain about youth players not getting games then complain about them doing so. Not sure those two positions are compatible.

From some of the tweets/media you'd think we'd been thrashed 99-0 by a pub team. Reminder: we played a young team against a good organised club plus we've got a cup semi on Wed then the Scum next weekend. While a replay isn't great it's neither the end of the world or the biggest focus. We're still in the draw (unlike Everton) and if we are going to play a bit poo I'd rather we did it against Plymouth than Saints or the Mancs....

BIG plus though was seeing Gomez back after 15-18 month injury nightmare.

he's not a grown man ...

... He's some kind of child.

A child who Bruce has just (13.00) gone home to wake up/get out of bed.

Christ knows what he'd do if his idiot son ever had to get a job that entailed getting to work by 09.00!

Wednesday 04/01/17

Slow, slow day at work! Only 3 jobs in all day & Bruce did 2 (publisher kak).

Ventured to the Castle after work. Sadly the lovely Amy wasn't on but we did get to say happy new year to Michael, & Hilary (+ Poppy & Bertie). Michael said he'd goat direct from supplier over Xmas - said to Lou she should get some & make goat curry when I'm doing a graduation.

In other news, workshy waste of DNA, Catherine, has handed her notice in. She's off to CAPE (?) to work for a renowened arsehole who has gone through 6 PA's in 8 years. Famously rude, I doubt she'll be able to get away with all the shit she has (turning up/starting work lat, 90-120 minute lunch-breaks, going home early etc).

Home to make a (slightly hotter then intended) chilli.

Unbelievably Spurs beat Chelski 2-0 :¬0

Tuesday 03/01/17

Back to work (after 3 weeks off) ... Booo!

Couple of jobs in the morning (1 while Bruce was out for 90 minute tea break). After that zilch.

Went to the Isaac after work. We weren't intending to stay too long but ended up watching Bournemouth v Arsenal match.

Crazy game ended 3-3 despite Bournemouth being 3-0 up at one point. Simon (and Jim) had been texting various Gooner mates but AFC got a goal back just after he left.

Sending off (quite as justified as the earlier penalty) turned the game Arsenal's way and they completed a remarkable comeback (by end looked like winning it) to get a point as the 10 men tired.

New year

NYE

Went to the Isaac to watch LFC beat Man City 1-0. Rushed home & got into steampunk gear & headed out to the Mill for their 'Dystopian Sci-Fi' themed event that the CEN said steampunks welcome.

We were the only ones in costume & their preparations seemed to consist of 1 cardboard cog & covering the piano in foil. Pathetic!

To make matters worse many of the tables had 'Reserved from..." on them. We got their about 20.30 and while I can see that you might get there a bit after 8pm there's no excuse for not removing them at 9pm. Worse, there were two tables in the snug that were reserved from 7pm and they still had 'Reserved" signs 2 hours later! Wouldn't get this level of piss-poor management in a restaurant....

Went back to the Isaac and saw in 2017 there - very quiet as there was about 10 of in there.

NYD

Didn't do anything in the morning (apart from 1st sexy time of the year!) as bucketing down. Went to the Isaac & watched footy before coming home and watching (grim but exciting) Sherlock.

Bank Holiday Monday

Lazy morning in bed reading before going to Sainsbury's. Stopped in the Mitre for a couple. [Hot blonde on next table had a phone, laptop & iPad all out at once - tech overload!]

Stopped in the Isaac & Eric was in - had a quick chat before he went home to continue packing. Had to shoot off back to Mitre as had left bag. It was bloody freezing out!

Pizza for tea :¬)
