Got to hotel quickly - it's got odd decor! Stone effigy of a dead knight under the mirror in one corner and an Egyptian sarcophagus in the other. Room was ready so we changed and set out for the National Space Centre (MSC). What sould have been a short walk became longer as the bridge we'd intended to use was closed for repairs. Ended up walking along and then coming back on ourselves.
The NSC was brilliant with lots to see. Saw Sue & Barry as we checked in then had a wander. Selling area was quite small but rickets were huge. Went over to the pumping station next door and saw Ash & Cerri then Phil & Sam. Phil asked if we'd heard about Angie? The way he said it, it was if she'd got a new job or won the lottery. It was a shock when he said that she'd had a heart attack & had a quadruple bypass operation! She'd gone to the Dr with chest pains and was rushed to hospital. It seems that a number of arteries were so blocked she wasn't well for ages. She's at home and walking about thankfully. Had a look around the station & were chatting when remembered that we were supposed to be watching a show in the planetarium - we missed the 1st 10 minutes but what we saw was good.
Back to the lounge for a hip-hop writing session with Professor Elemental which was good fun. Met up with Jamie, Magz & Lady B. Stayed there to sample an assortment of gins. Walked back to the hotel & went for a walk around the area. Got changed & caught a cab to the NSC for the evening. The show was in the planetarium & started with two ace magicians, Morgan & Webb, (who clearly hadn't been warned about working with the Powell's). Then there was a monologue: letters from the Time Travellor's landlady which was quite good.
This was followed by 45 minute break where we could play blackjack, roulette etc. Lou won at blackjack thanks to Jamie telling the dealer that it was her birthday. She also won at roulette.
Then it was back to the planetarium for Professor Elemental. It was a great show (even got my head measured by him during a freestyle rap). Booked a taxi that didn't turn up for 40 minutes. We were the 2nd last to leave.
On Sunday we got to the NSC early so we could have a look around before it got too busy. It's ace and we went up to the top of the rocket & had a go at landing the lunar module on a simulator. I did 2 perfect touchdowns (and 1 top score of the day for fuel saving etc). Lou crashed her's beacuse she was bored.
Had tea and a nice scone in the lounge while listening to Count Rostov's pun-laden radio play. Went shopping & Lou got herself a new watch. Played with the crane in the "Tranquility Base" area then back to the lounge for more Professor Elemental.
Walked back to the hotel & planned to get some food before the taxi arrived but it started to absolutely pour down. We're talking biblical rain here!
Got to the station and waited in the cold for the train. It was due to depart at 16.19. That became 16.20 but not a problem. Then some utter cunt (may their face get bitten off by a rabid dog & their genitals get cancer) decided to change the platform from 1A to 4A! 45 seconds notice from due departure time...
This meant that everybody had to sprint up 2 flights of stairs, across a bridge, down 2 flights of stairs and along the platform. Sprint not helped by the stupid old bat who stopped in front of me to see where here mate was. As we ran along the platform the twat with the whistle was blowing it. We just made it on but there were certainly people who would not have (eg old man who took the lift with his suitcase).
Found a seat and then discovered that a bunch of drunken, bog-dweller's with no volume control were sat behind us. Grrrrr.
Got into Ely on time and managed to get 1st bust so back in Cambridge around 19.00. Fed the cats then went over to the Isaac for food (hadn't eaten very much over the weekend).
Ended up staying for the quiz. We came joint 1st! Would have won if Lou had heard me spell 'Bey' and not write 'Bai' on the paper. Girls behind very entertaining too. For example:
i) What's a female swan called? A Swanette
ii) Who is the new England Rugby Manager? Simon Cowell.
Some pictures from SIC3 & a video of the pumping station
