Tuesday 27/01/15

Another frustrating day with the colour printer - finally can use it but can only print from the LCT and still have jams. New parts supposedly coming.

Went to Mitre in the evening for our usual Tuesday drinks but left when massive troop of gormless chinese kids turned up.

Went to Isaac to watch rest of Chelski v Liverpool game, a match enlivened by Diego Stampy. TBF he's a brave bugger: I certainly wouldn't want to anger Skrtl by deliberately stamping on him! This followed a blatant stamp on Emre Can not 5 yards from the 4th official Phil Dowd.

Oh & Balotelli is absolute gash in front of goal & lost Ivanovic at the other end.

Update: Stampy got a 3 game ban for violent conduct after ref admitted nobody from his team had seen either of the stamps and, if they had, he'd have got a straight red.

Lottery win story

Story on Absolute radio about bloke in Bolton who was queing for his weekly lottery stuff and met girl he knew. He told her to go first instead of him. They both bought 5 lucky dip tickets.

She won 5 million pounds with one of those tickets!

Monday 26/01/15

Slept badly again but was awake enough by 6.30am to buy Abney Park tickets for their London gig in April.

Late into town as taking stand down. Breakfast & mug of tea in the Regal (ragging Derek for ManU result). Started taking stand down at around 9am & all done by 10.15. Got into work to find that i) engineer still not been & ii) Biuce had not seen a job from Materials.

Ordered present for Gordon (t-shirt) and shades for me.

Met Lou in Isaac for Amstel & FA Cup draw. If we beat Bolton, we play a resurgent Crystal Palace away :¬(

Weekend 24 & 25/01/15

Saturday 24/01/15

Spent the morning preparing for work by doing nothing. Graduation event was short but frigging freezing (my hands went blue & Mick had to use hand dryer to revive his after losing feeling in fingers). The main topic of conversation was the result at the Abbey Stadium (or, as prize plum Lineker called it Abbey Road).

After got home (avoiding assorted fucknuckle zombies) waited for the Liverpool Bolton game.

While waiting, watched Stelling et al trying to describe a shocking day in the FA Cup. Man City lost 2-0 to Middlesborough. As if that wasn't amazing enough, Chelsea were 2-0 up against Bradford City but they came back to beat Roman's plaything 4-2!

The astonishing result left many wondering if it was the biggest FA Cup shock result ever. Looking at all the 'big' teams who'd been eliminated, the Cambridge/ManUSA result was looking quite good.

Should have been beware of schadenfreude as Bolton parked the bus & 8 defenders in front of goal. When we did get through the goalie played brilliantly. The ref, Kevin Friend, was even more fucking useless then normal, leading me to tweet

Sunday 25/01/15

Watched Sunday Brunch & then went to Isaac for lunch & watched more FA Cup games. Also saw Heather, who'd gone to the debacle at Stamford Bridge. Tried not to laugh at her expense too much.

Came home for Ski Sunday but , unusually for me, fell asleep.

Friday 23/01/15

Frigging freezing! According to weather station on top of the Computer Lab, it got down to -5.2ºC overnight. It was still -4ºC at 9am!

Set up the sales stand & then over to Lou's work to wait for the Cambridge United v Manchester United game. Supposed to be loads coming but in the end it was just us 2 & Pablo & Jessica.

Elsewhere it was very busy: the Avery had people on the door as they reached their fire limit. The Regal had a load of unhappy ManUSA fans who, despite being told by the bouncers that they didn't have sound, tried to get the management to put the sound on. Even the Isaac was rammed - Heather's mate got in a 18.30 and the only table free was the small one near the bogs!

The Cambridge squad cost zero & the ManUSA squad cost around £300m. The CUFC annual wage bill is around £1.5m, or about what Di Maria earns in around 38 days.

In the event Van Gaal's show ponies were lucky to escape with a draw. To be fair to Van Gaal, after getting very publicly shafted by Milton Keynes, he improved the side enormously to get a draw with a team 76 places below them. LOL!

That said if this was was a year ago, David Moyes would have been lambasted. This year, Moyes was admitted to hospital after he splitting his sides laughing.

Thursday 22/01/15

A very cold day and a random assortment of stuff to do, not helped by the continuing non-functioning of the heap-of-shit- colour machine. No sight of engineer or contact from Ricoh to say whet was happening.

Made a lovely lentil curry for tea & got the killer in "Death in Paradise" (admittedly for the wrong reason).

Grrrr & Smiles - 20/01/15

Another frustrating day at work in McCavity's absence as the heap of shit colour machine started playing up, yet again.

Ended up doing 60+ handouts for Dave Judge individually, pressing the button every time one finished (with occasional diversions to clear jams).

Started doing stuff for Computer Lab and gave up when yet another jam tempted me to give the innards a good kicking.

Gave up & went to the Mitre to meet Margritte. She was back in the city briefly to finish a class. She was called to the bar in 2014 and is only in the country till March when she leaves for a new job in Vanuatu! She said we should come & visit her when she is settled in (she actually said this several times). It was good to catch up and Lou spent a lot of time catching her up on babies etc. No mention was made (in my earshot) of JF.

One of the things Lou updated on was the fact that Doug unexpectedly found that he was a millionaire! MIL had cashed in assorted life insurance policies & put in bank accounts when started getting dementia. TBF Dog & Kathy have been spending £2k a month in care costs for around 10 years.

In other news the "Page 3 Stunna" was abolished, sort of. I say sort of as it's still available online & it might come back if sales go down...

Update 22/01/15:  Page 3 returned.

Weekend 17&18/01/15

Saturday 17th

Went to the Mitre for another fried breakfast (discount voucher No 2). Then saisbury's for munchies.

No snowman flesh sighted. Back to watch "The Secret Of My Success". Then a GoT session, starting at the beginning of season 2 again.

Marcel kittel won the 1st stage of the year in the Tour Down Under.

Sunday 18th

Sunday Brunch for AM lazing.

Friday, 16 January 2015

Friday 16/01/15

Been an exceptionally busy week (not helped by unreliable machinery).

Despite predictions of the snowpocalypse, Cambridge is still free from killer snow goon raw materials.

In other news, Iggle-Piggle announced that he'd be banning encrypted applications like WhatsApp - he really is a ludicrous cock-sucking cuntbag!

Another ludicrous cock-sucking dicksplash was the self appointed 'terror expert' who told a (surprised) Fox News anchor that Birmingham was composed entirely of Muslims & was a no go area for non-muslims. Twitter spent the next 2 days happily mocking him with a #FoxNewsFacts.

Monday 12/01/15

Took several sets of notes to MSM. Got back and Emma sent another 3 over . #Grrr!

Watched a Steampunk documentary over lunchtime & spotted Lou outside the Hendricks Gin Emporium @ AsylumVI :¬)

Weekend 2

Saturday

Miserable day out so just went to library & Sainsbury's. Then watched LFC v Sunderland.

Got 3 films from the library:
  • "Guardians of the Galaxy" - silly but fun
  • "The Grand Budapest Hotel" - brilliantly daft/weird
  • "Malifecent" - excellent retelling of the Sleeping Beauty tale from a different perspective

Sunday

Woken a number of times by high winds re-arranging the bins.

Spent the day watching TV (especially the Unity March in Paris) until time to decide on steampunk wear for the pub meet. Finally went for plain for Ian & jodpurs, corset & waistcoat for Lou.

Was great to catch up with Jill & Andrew + Jamie & Mags. New couple came too (Sue & Barry?). A good natter & catch up which was ace.

Friday, 9 January 2015

Friday 09/01/15

Took 21 boxes of notes to Computer Lab & MSM.

Around this watched Sky News speculating randomly as part of their coverage of the hostage situation in Dammartin-en-Goele, where the murdering barbarian scumbags holed up with a hostage in a printing plant.

As watched the police/security forces decided whether to bomb the factory into pebbles, news broke of another shooting by another cuntbag in Paris, who holed up with hostages in a Jewish supermarket.

Hope they take all alive, make them stand trial naked while building a new Bastille on a pacific atoll/island (preferably Bikini), surrounded by robot machine gun nests, just for them. One cell on every floor, one twat in each, lock the door, switch on the robots & sail away.

In domestic matters, it was announced that the private company, Circle*, running Hinchinbrooke Hospital were trying to weasel out of their contract because they weren't making any money. Should make the shamabolic, robbing bastards see out the remaining years of their contract or get the equivalent money out of the twats.

*Doesn't say much about the comeptence of Circle that it's taken them 3 years to realise that they can't make enough money from the state to make money on the low bid they made to run the hospital & the utter horlix ear they made of doing so.

Update: At 16.00 police special forces exchanged fire with the scumbags in the printing company. Reprtedly they came out firing and ended up as corpses. In Paris, the police also stormed the mini-market but, oddly, this operation took place 15-20 minutes later rather than at the same moment. According to police sources, 4 hostages in Paris were killed.

Wednesday 07/01/15 - #JeSuisCharlie

Lots of work but all inconsequential compared to two smegheads in Paris killing people.

They aren't muslims, they are murderers.

#JeSuisCharlie

Tuesday 06/01/15

Busy day at work for Ian.

10 boxes worth of printing done, including 6 boxes for 1 job (103 pages x 282 copies)!

Gloomy pretty much all day but brightened towards sunset. Introduced Lou to "Good Omens" (which Dave had told us about on NYE. Listened to the 1st 5 episodes and saved the last for Wednesday (coz it's an hour long).

Monday 05/01/15

Back to work for the first full week of the year.

Bruce back & discussed with Kate timing of purchase of new machinery.

Also mentioned to me that "there were some eyebrows raised" at me taking the whole month of December off & that 'we need to plan holidays more carefully' when we have a new chief. Pointed out that there's a lot of graduations making it difficult. Maybe I'll just bugger off in a way that's most annoying, leaving Mac & Loren etc to pack photos....

Away from a slow day at work, Liverpool just about managed to overcome AFC Wimbledon (and their hulking (prop) forward, Akinfenwa) & Cambridge United were drawn against ManUSA in the 4th round. The roar in the pub was probably audible in the heartlands of MUFC's support - Surrey & Shanghai.

Also said 'bon voyage' to Victoria who is off to SE Asia for 4 months.

Weekend

Saturday:

Pissed down all day!

Went to the Mitre for breakfast. Sat at the table in the corner & started to feel drips. After looking it was either a leaking pipe in the aircon unit or the rain forcing it's way inside. Moved tables.

Went to Sainsbury's, came home & then went to Isaac to dry out in front of the fire!

Sunday

Very foggy/misty out + some frost.

Got up late and went to Sainsbury's for stuff for a butter chicken curry, essentially green pappers & green beans (already had quorn + paneer). Will do this again as well tasty (may add some more spice next time).

Saturday, 3 January 2015

Back to work or ...

... Why, oh why, didn't I take the blue pill?

Ian went back to work after a month off on the 2nd of January and was quite busy in the morning doing lots of proofs for Material Science that Bruce didn't have time to do before Christmas. Hardly anyone was around as most, including Emma at MSM, had taken the day off. One consequence is that many hundreds of documents need proofing & printing in a week for the start of term. And that's not counting the Computer Lab stuff.

Also had to call an engineer for the colour machine that Bruce broke the handle off on the 19th of December (too much OJ at the Xmas party?).

Luckily it was quiet in the afternoon & did get to see 1 of the family of rats that have moved in under the air-con units,

Lou spent all day in bed, finally venturing out after Ian got home, for cat food & beer.

Big news of the day was Gerrard confirming he would be leaving Liverpool after 17 years with the club. The end of an era & 1 of out greatest ever players who dragged us to new levels, scoring in every domestic & European final and taking home the trophy each time. Just a shame our defence fell short at the end of last season & Gerrard couldn't have the 1 winners medal that always eluded him.

2015 Day 1 - food fails

Slept way into 2015 (1st time in many years I've slumbered into a new year).

We'd planned to go to the Mitre for breakfast. Checked opening times of pub online & also of Sainsbury's as needed food for Friday. Both said they were open. So we headed off about 10.30.

We went to Sainsbury's to find it was closed (as was M&S) then back to the Mitre. Ths was also shut (there was sombody who looked like they were the cleaner inside).

So no breakfast & no nosh for return to work. Arse.

Also Lou managed to smash yet another wine glass this evening. She really is the doom of silicon dioxide products.
